Sean Bingham
Diversity and Inclusion Workgroup Chair
Biography
Took on the role of the lead for D&I and Vice Chair in 2023.

I fell in love with cycling in the 80s watching Bernard Hinault, Laurent Fignon, Stephen Roche et al fight it out in the Tour de France. Pretty soon I swapped the basketball court for the road bike. I joined my local club and quickly wanted to test my fitness against other riders in the North Staffs/South Cheshire area.
I would probably describe myself as a keen participant rather than one of those who can mix it at the pointy end, but enjoy competing in time trials, road races, cyclo cross, track, mountain bike and hopefully in 2024 - gravel.
As a teenager, I was mindful that I was the only non white person that I knew who was cycling, let alone racing and ever since, I have been keen to encourage others from under represented groups to feel welcome in what I believe to be the best sport in the world!
I lived in Ireland for ten years and was privileged to be the Chairman of the Apollo Rockets Cycling Team - set up to help youngsters from all parts of the political spectrum in Ulster to learn to get on through training on bikes and competing in cyclo cross and mountain bike races.
In my role as a Board member and as Vice Chair, I will work to support club officials who are just as keen as me to show what a friendly, inclusive sport this is for all.
